FREDDIE ROACH

Boxing Trainer / Owner of Wild Card Boxing Club

Freddie Roach is arguably the most noteworthy trainer in boxing today and one of the all time greatest in his craft. He is the owner of the world famous Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, CA.

Freddie was born into a boxing family on March 5, 1960, in Dedham, MA. As one of seven children he learned quickly the importance of being quick and persistent. At an early age he and his brothers were in the gym learning to box. His father Paul was a onetime New England featherweight champion and his mother Barb became the first female judge for professional boxing in the state of Massachusetts.

Having fought in the amateurs for a number of years, with 150 amateur fights under his belt, he turned pro in 1978. The legendary Eddie Futch trained Freddie throughout his professional boxing career, which yielded a record of 41 wins (17 by TKO) - 13 losses - 0 draws. Freddie fought most of his career as a Super Bantamweight (122 lbs).

Once retired from the pro ranks, Freddie turned to training when he was offered the opportunity to work with actor Mickey Rourke when he turned to boxing midway through his acting career. He hired Freddie to train him in Hollywood, CA. There Freddie opened the now legendary Wild Card Boxing Club.

The Wild Card Boxing Club is a haven for both world renowned fighters and the up and comers. In addition, the club is open to anyone wanting to work out for only $5 dollars a day. To say the least, Freddie is surrounded by a colorful group of people.

As a professional trainer, Freddie has a number of world champions including Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Oscar de La Hoya, Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., James Toney and Virgil Hill, to name a few. Roach has made over 36 world champions to date.

Roach has also worked with a number of MMA greats including Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, Tito Ortiz and BJ Penn.

Career achievements include 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Boxing Writers Association of America “Eddie Futch Award” for the trainer of the year. He was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and California Boxing Hall of Fame. In 2008, Freddie received the World Boxing Council “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Roach suffers from Parkinson’s disease most likely due to repeated blows to the head received during his own boxing career. He is one of the leading spokesmen for Parkinson’s along with Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali.
